(Austin, Texas) – Energized for another year of improving communities, Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide environmental nonprofit, announced its selections for president and new board members at its 41st Annual Conference in Irving.
During the June 27 Annual Meeting, Lake Jackson’s Terri Cardwell was named Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) President for the 2008-2009 year. A lifelong resident of Brazoria County, Cardwell is a graduate of Brazosport College and earned a Volunteer Management Certificate from Rice University. After volunteering with the Lake Jackson Beautification Commission and serving as Chairman and Coordinator for City Clean Commission, Cardwell accepted a position as the City of Lake Jackson’s first Volunteer Coordinator, where she has been for 13 years. Cardwell has held many leadership roles in Brazoria County including Board Member of Keep Brazoria County Beautiful Association, Regional Governor, Executive Trainer, and Waste In Place Trainer for KTB and Keep America Beautiful. Cardwell is also a former member of the Texas Environmental Educational Partnership.
In addition to Cardwell, the Board welcomed two new members for its 2008-2009 year. Edward C. Camarillo of Brownsville serves as City Commissioner for District 4 where he founded the nonprofit Project R.E.A.D.Y., an extracurricular program that assists the district’s underprivileged youth. As a City Commissioner, Camarillo has been a committed environmental advocate, serving on the Brownsville Beautification Committee, drafting a no plastic bag ordinance, creating recycling opportunities at local schools, and initiating a curbside recycling program in a district subdivision.
Lufkin’s Tony Moline, Executive Director of KTB-affiliated Angelina Beautiful/Clean, will serve as an Affiliate Coordinator Representative to the Board. An active KTB member who most recently volunteered on the 2007-2008 KTB Awards Committee, Moline hopes to lend his years of event-planning experience and offer his unique perspective to KTB. Moline currently sits on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee for the Deep East Texas Council of Government.
In addition to electing a new president and members, the KTB board approved the 2008-09 slate of officers.
