(Lufkin, TX) November 15, 2007 - Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) employees are celebrating Texas Recycles Day by cleaning out their closets, garages, and storage spaces in search of reusable items as part of Reuse Roundup, and now you can too!
Reuse Roundup, a partnership between TxDOT, Goodwill Industries, and Angelina Beauitful/Clean, is aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling and put re-sellable items into Goodwill stores across Texas. TxDOT employees and citizens in the Angelina County Area will have the opportunity to bring clean, reusable materials to the TxDOT District Office on Thursday, November 15 where they will be collected in Goodwill vans, bins, and barrels. Goodwill employees will be on hand to help take donations and facilitate the event.
"Over the last four years TxDOT employees have enjoyed donating through our campuses across the state," Brandi Rountree, Outreach Recycling Coordinator for TXDOT, says. "We encourage our employees to practice recycling and conservation and want to make donating as easy as recycling paper in their deskside containers."
For Reuse Roundup, Goodwill is particularly interested in collecting personal items such as clothes, shoes, toys, sports equipment, books, and CDs. The donations have a huge impact as they reduce materials sent to landfills. Additionally, their placement and resale in stores provides training and employment for Texans with barriers to employment.
Texas Recycles Day (TRD) takes place every year on November 15th and aims to raise public awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of recycling. This year's theme is "It All Comes Back to You."
In addition to the Reuse Roundup, Angelina Beautiful/Clean has an educational project for the Lufkin Middle School 6th Graders on November 15th. This project continues our mission to educate and empower our students to be more environmentally minded.
