The 18th annual telephone directory recycling campaign has begun. As the new Consolidated Communications Phone Books are being delivered, Angelina Beautiful/Clean, Consolidated Communications and the City of Lufkin Regional Recycling Center continually encourage area residents and businesses to recycle their old phone directories.

Through September 25th, yellow recycling containers will be located in the parking lots of Brookshire Brothers Fresh Market on Chestnut, Brookshire Brothers Fresh Market on Gaslight in Lufkin, Brookshire Brothers in Diboll, Brookshire Brothers in Huntington, and beside the Consolidated Communications Business Office on First Street in Lufkin. Residents of Lufkin may also place the books in their blue curbside recycling container along with their newspapers. Directories can be recycled all year at the Lufkin Recycling Center on Farm Road 819.
According to Amanda Anderson, AB/C Program Manager, “For the past 18 years, the response to this campaign has been outstanding. Residents and businesses in Angelina County have been very supportive of this program. Since the inception of this campaign, we have kept more than 110 tons of old phone books out of the Angelina County landfill.”
“Last year, more than 12 tons of directories were collected with this year’s goal being 7 tons. The phone books will be collected by the Houston-based company that will shred them to create insulation,” stated City of Lufkin Assistant Director of Solid Waste and Recycling, Lynn Winthrop.
As the 2008 directories are being recycled, the new 2009 Consolidated Communications Phone Books are now being distributed to East Texans. The new directories are also available in the lobby of the Consolidated Communications Business Office at 321 N. First Street in Lufkin. Lobby hours are 8:00am -5:00pm.
